Gust Path skill runs: drawing curves the biplane has to honour

Gust Path gameplay preview
Protocol note. Path-drag skill runs need a smooth pointer. We logged desktop mouse, trackpad and touch. Keyboard brush (WASD) works as a secondary steer. No App Store or Play card exists for this build.

What the first skill runs second looks like

Gust Path puts a biplane over islands and asks you to drag a glowing path. The plane chases the waypoints with inertia. Thread a ring and the combo climbs; yank a wild curve and the craft cuts the corner into a peak or a bird. Gold rings sit in crosswind. That is the whole pitch.

Compared with Girder Span, the anchor is freer and therefore noisier. Skill runs here are about curve quality, not plank length. We ranked it second because the verb is clear but the fail state sometimes needs one extra beat to read on a first pass.

Load test: Anchor

Drag is discoverable from the on-screen hint. Space provides a short boost that also unsettles stability — a fair trade. On touch, path drawing feels native; on a trackpad, short strokes work better than one long scribble.

Load test: Reach

Novice runs land around twenty-five to forty-five seconds. Longer protocol passes stretch past a minute when jetstream and rainbow events stack. Birds after sixteen seconds are the main soft wall.

Load test: Deflection

Wind ribbons are the bend. Ride them for speed and ring score, but they yank the nose off a safe corridor. Crosswind gale doubles gold value while making the path harder to honour. That is textbook deflection for skill runs: same controls, sharper stakes.

Load test: Load

No double-binding between drag and WASD in our passes. The Close link stayed clear of the HUD after the top padding change. Landscape preview on the ranking card is a cropped play frame at 1600×900.

Load test: Release

Review ships with play at /play/gust-path/. We re-checked on 5 November 2026.

Strengths we logged

  • Path-drag identity distinct from hold-extend or chase-skate
  • Perfect centres and gold rings give a visible mastery ladder
  • Events remix risk without new buttons

Limits we refuse to dress up

  • No store rating to cite
  • Path is a polyline, not a spline — sharp corners punish harder than they look
  • Ultra-narrow screens bring rings closer; expect a denser corridor

How a protocol path is judged

We score a path as “clean” when the biplane stays inside the ring radius without a corrective scribble mid-chase. Perfect centres are logged separately from mere ring hits. Gold rings only count when the crosswind banner is active; taking gold in calm air is allowed but marked as low-deflection.

Bird swarm is the stress event. A pass that panics into a peak during swarm still counts for reach, but the review will call out panic steering. Jetstream passes that ride the ribbon without exiting rings early are the ones we cite as high skill runs.

Why rank two and not one

The verb is excellent. The first-fail readability is a half-step behind Girder Span. Players sometimes blame the plane’s turn rate when the real issue was a polyline corner. We would rather rank honesty than hype, so Gust Path sits on the middle of the cantilever.

Session notes from 5 November 2026

Pass A: 32 s, four perfects, birdstrike. Pass B: jetstream ride, 58 s. Pass C: crosswind gold then peak. Touch pass: drag lag acceptable, Close clear. Keyboard brush used only as a backup steer in pass B.

Verdict on the cantilever

Gust Path holds rank two for skill runs that reward drawn curves. Best for path curves. Checked 5 November 2026.
